Grant funding for items such as fencing has now closed.

The Countryside Stewardship Capital Grant Scheme for 2025 has closed today, 1st August 2025 at 1.30pm. Having opened at the beginning of July, the budget has been spent very quickly, but this is unsurprising due to being the only grant funding available to farmers and land managers.

Those that have applied over the past month, will be contacted by the Rural Payments Agency in due course once applications are processed with agreements offered to all eligible applicants. The resultant agreements will provide land managers with 3 years to complete the capital works set out, which can be then be claimed in tranches once completed, upon submission of a claim to the RPA with the accompanying supporting evidence requirements. Payments are usually made within 6-8 weeks of a claim been submitted.

It is understood that a further round of Countryside Stewardship Capital Grant funding will become available at some point in 2026. Do note that in order to make an application here, all capital grants for a parcel must have been completed to make a further claim. It is also worth noting, that if you have applied for capital grants in the past and not completed them, they need to be removed with the RPA before making further applications.

Looking ahead, although there are no schemes open at present, the Countryside Stewardship Higher Tier Scheme is set to open to invitees in September and further information on the reformed Sustainable Farming Incentive is expected soon.
